The Magician of the Village (a Novel) Fadhil Qaradaghi The ambition of a young orphan shepherd to get wealth and power in contrast to another shepherd; his naive friend seeking for love. Siamand, the shepherd discovers ancient inscriptions then he leaves the village to an unknown place, but to go back, after some time, as a powerful magician. After gaining power, conflicts begin: with the son of the ex-master of the village, with archaeologists coming from the capital to excavate an ancient site near the village, with an enthusiastic young teacher. But finally, and after defeating them all, he finds himself struggling with himself and with what he was so far doing. After Siamand’s message of “wealth and power”, directed only to himself, comes his new message to the public: “loving nature”, and finally the third and everlasting message: the connection between human and heaven. In addition to men, two animal characters are there, the lighthearted dog of Siamand and a funny donkey, both talk, or rather we feel them talking, each using its expressions and words.
