Beating a Parliamentarian for Objecting Barzani’s Second Extended Term Fadhil Qaradaghi Due to his objection concerning the extension of Masud Barzani’s presidential term by another two years, a Change Movement parliamentarian was assaulted by two members of Barzani’s party in the assembly hall. On June 30th, 2013, the two ruling parties, the Kurdistan “Democratic” Party and the Kurdistan Patriotic Party, voted to extend Barzani’s term for two years, but the three opposition parties—Change Movement, Islamic Group, and Islamic Union—rejected the extension, considering it a “parliament coup.” Intellectuals and many citizens also viewed it as illegal, since it was not conducted through public elections. Masud Barzani, head of the Kurdistan “Democratic” Party and president of the Kurdistan Region, and his party are now working hard to secure a second extension through a parliamentary vote. https://www.facebook.com/fadhil.qaradaghi/photos/a.795515773835275.1073741828.750791351641051/812630475457138 25-03-2015 www.zagros.org/english-news-2016-05-27-193714 7203 views |
