Interpretations of the Quran are NOT the Quran Fadhil Qaradaghi In another part of his lecture, this Saudi cleric attempts to cite the Quran as "proof" that the Sun rotates around the Earth. However, what he is actually doing is interpreting the Quran—or more precisely, relying on older interpretations. The verse he refers to states: "The Sun runs (or flows) towards where it will settle." But does the Quran explicitly say that the Sun runs "around the Earth"? No, it does not. Nor does it use the word "rotates" to describe its motion. Does the Sun move? Yes, modern science confirms that the Sun moves—along with the planets of our solar system—around the center of our galaxy. But the Quran's statement, "The Sun runs," is open to interpretation. The latter part of the verse, "towards where it will settle," is particularly ambiguous and lends itself to multiple interpretations. It could be metaphorical, referring to an eventual end or a divinely determined course, rather than a geocentric understanding of the cosmos. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/02/17/saudi-cleric-reveals-the-sun-rotates-around-the-earth-which-is-not-spinning-on-its-axis_n_6700762.html 19-02-2015 www.zagros.org/english-articles-2016-05-27-191316 13681 views |
